At Heritage Golf & Country club, your experience undeniably begins with 36 holes of championship golf. Located about 35 minutes north of Melbourne in the spectacular Yarra Valley, a prime Victorian wine district, two incomparable championship golf courses ornament The Heritage. Split by the Yarra River, The Jack Nicklaus 'Signature' St John course greets you at the gates, while its wily sister, the links style Henley course, designed by Tony Cashmore, takes players on a bewitching journey around the foothills beyond. Each offers a unique but equally engaging experience for any skill level.
The Heritage golfing philosophy is founded on pure enjoyment, the sense of belonging and the freedom of choice. A full service clubhouse is available and, given its location in the Yarra valley below the Mt Lofty Ranges and on the doorstep to over 80 wineries, the Yarra Valley Lodge at the Heritage Golf & Country Club is the perfect choice for a weekend getaway, or to indulge your golfing passions. A spectacular setting overlooking 1000 acres of beautifully manicured land combined with a huge array of activities ensures you will be more than comfortable during your stay.
The St John Course
“ This was no flat, uninspiring paddock. Nature gave me a great start here with a landform that allowed me to create a wonderful golf course for Heritage Members.”
The immense experience of perhaps the world’s most influential golfer, Jack Nicklaus, is reflected in the design of the St John Golf Course. The first private Nicklaus ‘Signature’ golf course built in Australia, its sculptured fairways form a stunning vista at The Heritage’s entrance and extend 6670 metres to the banks of the Yarra.
With an Australian Course Rating of 74 off the Gold tee, this championship par 72 course challenges at every turn.
Taking advantage of the Yarra Valley’s natural contours, dazzling water features flow throughout St John while strategically placed slopes, mounds and traps make every hole a quest of its own.
St John’s specially designed bunkers artfully guide players toward the green. Generous fairways, immaculately groomed greens, paved cart paths winding throughout the course and meticulous landscaping all add to a rewarding playing experience that is both attainable and captivating.
The Henley Course
Stroll over the bridge across the Yarra to Henley’s northern half and discover a hidden treasure. A traditional links style course designed by Tony Cashmore, in consultation with Nicklaus Design the Henley contrasts beautifully with the stadium style St John.
Weaving through oxbow meanders carved by the river, the Henley rises alongside the Warrandyte State Forest to the knoll from which the Homestead surveys The Heritage’s spectacular landscape.
A truly beautiful course, The Henley is tranquil, rich in wildlife and bordered by a tapestry of roughs as picturesque as its flawless fairways.
Seemingly in defiance of the acres of wetlands that comprise The Henley’s lower section, green keepers grow carpet like couch fairways with ease; thanks to an excellent sand base and a meticulous maintenance regime.
